TWO families whose relatives died in the same incident met for the first time at this year\u2019s National Police Memorial Day in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
The families of\u00a0PC David Whittle, 20,\u00a0and PC John Bromilow, 23, met for the first time since the men died following a patrol car crash while escorting a prisoner\u00a0in August 1979.<\/p>\n

They were among more than 1,200 police officers of all ranks, politicians and families of fallen officers attended the service on Sunday 27 September.<\/p>\n
Rachel Baines, Chairman of Lancashire Police Federation, said: \u201cWe\u2019re really humbled to be here and honoured to be here to support the families of those officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been particularly special this year because we\u2019ve brought two families with us that have never met before.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne family\u2019s son and the other family\u2019s brother were both killed in the same incident and it\u2019s the first time they\u2019ve ever met. And that incident was over 30 years ago, so it\u2019s been a really touching and moving experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve been before but they didn\u2019t realise, they\u2019ve never actually met before, so it\u2019s been really special this year to allow those to make the connection.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re here to celebrate life and remember those that have fallen.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cI think it\u2019s just really special to have this event, to remember and honour those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives for the people in this country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it does remind us of the dangers that officers face every day while going about their duties.\u201d<\/p>\n
